Research Fellow
Universidad Politecnica de Madrid
Mélanie Nolan is a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, and Adjunct Professor at the Laboratoire d’Acoustique de l’Université du Mans (LAUM), France. She received an MSc in General Engineering from École Centrale de Lyon, France, and an MSc in Engineering Acoustics from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where she also completed her PhD in 2018. She subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at DTU, Saint-Gobain Ecophon (Sweden), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA), and LAUM. She currently chairs the Technical Committee on Room and Building Acoustics of the European Acoustics Association and is a member of the Spanish Acoustical Society and a full member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA). She is the recipient of the Young Scientist Award from the International Commission for Acoustics (2016), the Young Professional Award from the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (2019), and the F. V. Hunt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Acoustics from the ASA (2021). Her research focuses on the measurement and characterization of sound absorption and reflection in complex acoustic environments. By combining advanced experimental techniques, wave-field analysis, and acoustic modelling, she investigates the spatial, directional, and temporal structure of sound fields and their interaction with materials, developing new approaches for acoustic material characterization.
