Kathleen MacWilliam completed her Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc Eng) in Electrical Engineering (Honours), a four-year professional engineering degree, at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2017. She subsequently obtained a research-based Master of Science in Engineering (MSc Eng) in Electrical Engineering from the same institution, completing the degree at the end of 2019. She was awarded a bursary from the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) to support her master’s research, during which she specialised in radar and remote sensing.
In 2026, she completed her PhD in Electrical Engineering at STADIUS (Stadius Center for Dynamical Systems, Signal Processing and Data Analytics), within the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) at KU Leuven, where she is currently continuing as a postdoctoral researcher. Her research focuses on room acoustics, with particular emphasis on room geometry inference from acoustic measurements and the modelling and estimation of spatially dynamic acoustic environments.
